Fabric shielding explained
Unprotected fabric absorbs a liquid in seconds: the stain gets into the fibre and the padding, and a cloth won’t lift it any more. Shielding creates an invisible barrier around each fibre that makes the liquid bead up and stay on top. You have minutes to blot it up, and it leaves no water ring.
It’s the step that makes most sense for light-coloured sofas, homes with children or pets, and any freshly cleaned upholstery you want to keep that way for as long as possible.
How we do it

Essential. The protector locks in whatever is underneath: applied to a dirty sofa, it seals in the dirt and stains. That’s why we always clean first.
The fabric must be dry for the product to bond to the fibre. We speed up drying with forced air, or come back another day if the fabric needs it.
We cover the floor, nearby walls and the parts of the sofa that aren’t treated (wood, metal, zips) so the product only goes where it should.
An even spray in criss-cross coats over seats, backs, arms and both sides of the cushions. No soaking and no missed patches.
The product cures in 24 hours. Then we do the test: a few drops of water on the fabric should bead up and roll off. If they don’t, we reapply.

Shielding buys you time: minutes, not days. If a spill is wiped up straight away, nothing is left. If it’s left to dry, the stain still gets in, though it stays shallower and is easier to remove at the next clean. We’d rather you knew that than sell it to you as an indestructible sofa.

No. We use water-based protectors that leave no shine, stiffness or smell once cured. We do a patch test in a hidden area before applying it to the whole sofa.
Yes. The products we use contain no harsh solvents and, once cured (24 hours), are inert: nothing comes off on contact or with heat. In fact, shielding is recommended precisely for homes with children and pets.
The product cures in 24 hours. During that time it’s best not to sit on it or rest anything on the fabric. Then we do the water test and the sofa is ready.
Blot it straight away with a cloth or kitchen paper, without rubbing. The liquid stays on the surface for a few minutes; if it’s left to dry, it will eventually soak in, though less deeply. No rubbing and no harsh products, as they wear down the protection.
Yes, with a different protector for each: conditioner plus a specific protector for leather and faux leather, low-pressure application on velvet, and heavier-duty shielding on synthetics and outdoor or hospitality fabrics.
